Hi, I’m Laura!
Pronouns: They/Them (but she/her is okay)
Each of my clients comes to therapy for a different reason. But there is at least one thing that they almost always have in common – being born into a capitalist and white supremacist society that has resulted in a lot of various forms of oppression. To me, acknowledging and working through what has been placed on us via society is a HUGE part of therapy.
My goal is to provide an environment for healing to begin. Therapy is about unpacking the personal, familial, and societal burdens. Therapy is about exploring who we truly are once we do. Therapy is not just about trauma, but post-traumatic GROWTH.
We think we can just bury our emotions/convince ourselves to just “move on” because “we’re fine.” The tricky thing with emotions are that they don’t work like that. Even the darkest emotions and parts of ourselves have a lot of wisdom and are just doing the best they can to help us survive.
I wish I could say that in the end, it will all be better. But actually, at the end of every session, my clients re-enter this messy world that we live in. At the very least, I hope to work with each person to be able to manage moving through this world and to unlearn the negative beliefs that have been placed on them.
Oh yeah, and to feel just a little less alone 🙂
